Description

SPAGHETTI INSTALLATION (2 of 6 images)
2007
Materials: Thin/twist Spaghetti, coloured powder paint.

This work was done during an art lesson inside my school's artroom. I took up almost half of all the tables in the room and all my classmates thought I was going nuts in the head. The installation work was done to finish off our unit of work "sitework". Notible sitework artists include Antony Gormley and Andy Goldsworthy. However, this work inparticular focuses mainly on Goldsworthy's style/method/look.

I really enjoyed experimenting with the spaghetti in different positions and layouts. Imparticular, the spaghetti which are standing up. They sought of remind me of carrot tops growing in the fields. It may also resemble fiber optic lights. A classmate came up to the work and started fixing it because the spaghetti was starting to fall down. I was like Stopppppp! What are you doing?! What was amazing about it was how the spaghetti was slowly and gradually falling, falling, falling....and the process of watching it was brilliant. And that was the key element/point of the work... is to sit back, watch and witness the gradual process.

A variety of coloured powder paint was used to give the spaghetti a hint of life, colour, touch and feel. Try holding a batch of spaghetti and drop it very suddenly...see what shapes appear on the ground! Otherwise...you can always cheat and design it yourself! My classmates were like what a waste of food! I am very sorry to all the homeless and less fortunate out in the world...but trust me...I'm an artist and would do anything to make my art.

Special thanks goes out to my visual arts teacher Ms E Palmer for the great idea and inspiration, labelling the installation as "ingenious".

Unfortunately...the bell rang and the work only lasted 10 minutes on the table. Please see image 4 of 4 for the clean up.
