Description

JELLYFISH IS DEAD (4 of 5 images)
2008
Materials: Bed linen/sheets, sting, match sticks, hot-melt glue, acrylic paint, coloured dye, plastic bags, coat hangers, nylon/polyester/cotton fabrics, cloth scraps.

One of my recent works of 2008 that I did during the strife and dilemma of school exams and stress. Titled "Jellyfish is Dead" the work captures the beauty and wonder of our marine life and how everyday human impacts have caused dramatic changes within our oceans.

The work hopefully raises some concern for our sea life and degrading environment. I have chosen the jellyfish to represent this, through its stunning tenticles, range of colour and just the beauty of it's full entirety. Through pollution, everyday rubbish and plain careless actions...it's really up to us humans to stop, think and question ourselves... why?

The work was exhibited at this year's WAVERLEY YOUTH ART AWARD, an annual art exhibition held at the Bondi Pavilion.

ABOUT THE AWARD:
The Waverley Youth Art Award is open to residents and students of the Waverley/Eastern Suburbs area who are between the ages of 12 and 25 years. Councillor, Ingrid Strewe, Mayor of Waverley, will officially open the exhibition at 6pm, Thursday 12 June when prizes will be awarded.

In 1978, Waverley Council established a cultural centre at Bondi Pavilion. To mark this 30-year history, we are inviting a number of artists, curators and teachers with a long association with the Pavilion to be involved in our program. We are delighted to have Damien Minton from Damien Minton Gallery and artist Carlos Barrios judging the 2008 Waverley Youth Art Award.
