Description

FUSION
2007
Materials: Acrylic on canvas, black cotton, panda polyester.

This work was completed during my spare time (away from the everyday hecticness of school, work, assessments, sport and so on.) I wanted something that was textured, warming, yet simple and contemporary. The added fabric wrapped on the sides at right angles allowed for that added feel and touch to the work.

The idea was obtained from Channel Seven's "Better Homes and Gardens" (Aust.) where a very similar example was done. I rarely, had the opportunity to work with fabric and canvas, so this was something I wanted to try for a first. To all you creative gurus and DIY masters out there, catch BHG on Channel 7 every Friday night at 7:30 (Aust.) The weekly one-hour program is great for anything around the home/garden. It's not just that, there are stacks of hints, tips and plenty of "logistics" that they chuck at you that you'll remember for life! Who knows, your next major project could very well have been taken from the show! (or magazine)

"Fusion" was not difficult and can achieved by anyone...so if you have a spare canvas, some spare time, paint up a wicked design on it. Remember the thicker, the more textured - the better. Try to use a maximum of three colours for a sense of uniformity. Very tightly wrap the dry painted canvas with your favourite fabric/polyester/cotton at right angles to give it the finishing touch. If your extra creative why not go for an even bigger canvas than I have. Now place your masterpiece in your bedroom/dining/lounge room and there you have it, your families/relatives/friends will be astounded! Good Luck!
