Description

4 FIGURES
2002
Materials: Coloured wash, Poster paint, ink.

I did this painting back in Year 6 primary school. It is one of my favourite works from my childhood collection. I chose to adopt lots of blues/greens to capture a rather cold and wet feeling. Everyone in the class had to paint the same four things in their work - a moon, stick figure, mountains and a cup. Everything else was up to your own inspiration.

This was from memory heaps of fun as we painted outside in the playground for the first time, drawing inspiration from the trees, leaves, bark and nature in general. Many of my class members did works which were rather "warm/red" or mixed, so it was really good to see the variety that was coming out. We were also learning about "focal points" which is meant to be the first spot the audience sees in an artwork. I guess I tried to attempt that through the snake's red tough.

You can always tell it's a childhood artwork, because the teacher would always write your name at the bottom of the work! Label! Label! The work is actually upside down because my teacher wrote my name on the wrong end! Come to think of it...I've actually come to like it this way over the years.
